BUDDHIST PILGRIM - TOUR ITINERARY

Duration – 9 days / 8 nights


Day 1- ARRIVAL / NEGOMBO

As soon as you arrive at Bandaranayake International airport, you’ll be offered with great Sri Lanka hospitality and headed directly to Negombo by one of the representatives of Resort Lanka. You will be checked in to the hotel to enjoy the dinner and overnight stay at Negombo

Day 2- NEGOMBO/ ANURADHAPURA

Proceed to Anuradhapura after the breakfast at the hotel.

Anuradhapura is the capital city of North Central Province with an ancient value as it is the first Kingdom of Sri Lanka which reveals the ancient Sri Lankan civilization through preserved ruins. It was the capital city of Sinhalese from 4th century BC to 11th century AD which remains as the most stable durable center of political power and urban life in South Asia. This is a sacred city to Buddhists and is one of the oldest world heritage sites in Sri Lanka.

*Ancient City Tour – Sri Maha Bodhi Tree (Sacred Tree), Ruwanveli Stupa, Brazen Palace, Thuparama Stupa, Abayagiri Monastery, Samadhi Buddha Statue, Twin Ponds, Moon Stone and Guard Stone

Dinner and overnight stay in Anuradhapura will be provided.

Day 3- Anuradhapura/ Mihintale/Avukana/Polonnaruwa

Proceed to Mihintale after the breakfast at the hotel.

Mihintale, is a mountain near Anuradhapura which is regarded as significant site which inaugurated the presence of Buddhism in Sri Lanka after the meeting of King Devanampiyatissa and Mahinda thero.

Then we will be proceeding to Avukana Buddha Statue – Standing statue of Buddha. This was carved out of a large granite rock in 5th century AD in the reign of King Dhathusena which is more than 40 feet in height.

On completion, proceed to Polonnaruwa.

Polonnaruwa is the 2nd kingdom of ancient Sri Lanka reveals the way of blending of the two cultures of Buddhism and Hindu. Polonnaruwa is full of great reservoirs and ruins of Polonnaruwa Kingdom. It was declared as a world heritage site in 1982.

Dinner and overnight stay in Polonnaruwa will be provided.

Day 4- POLONNARUWA / DAMBULLA

Commencement of the Polonnaruwa ancient city tour after the breakfast at the hotel.

*Ancient City Tour – Gal Vihara Complex, Rankoth Vehera, Thiwanka Image House, Royal Palace, Royal Pond, Council Chamber and The Quadrangle

Then proceed to Dambulla.

Dambulla cave temple, the largest and best preserved cave temple complex in Sri Lanka is also known as the Golden Temple of Dambulla and is situated in the Central Province. The statues and paintings disclose the talents of the ancestors. This is also a world heritage site.

Dinner and overnight stay in Dambulla will be provided.

Day 5- DAMBULLA / KANDY

You will proceed to visit Aluvihara Temple after the breakfast at the hotel.

Aluvihara Rock Temple also known as Matale Aluvihara is situated in the Matale District and is surrounded with a beautiful view of mountain ranges on Kandy – Matale main road. Aluvihara has an ancient history starting from 3rd century BC from the reign of King Devanampiyatissa who built a stupa after planting a Bo sapling in the temple premises by introducing Buddhism.

Proceeding to Kandy on completion.

Kandy is a world heritage city which is situated 480m above from sea level surrounded by mountains and also known as hill country. Kandy was the last Kingdom of Sri Lanka which survived in the 19th century.

Commencement of the Kandy City Center Tour upon arrival.

*Kandy City Tour - Kandy Lake Round, Upper Lake Drive, View Point, Art and Craft Centre, Gem Museum, Batik, Silk and Woodcarving Factories.

Visit to Temple of the Tooth Relic in the evening.

Temple of the Tooth Relic also known as Sri Dalada Maligawa, was the royal palace complex of the former kingdom of Kandy.

Then you will be having the opportunity to attend a mind-blowing Sri Lankan cultural extravaganza with fire walking. Nerve yourself for heavy drum beat and acrobatic act.

Dinner and an overnight stay in Kandy will be provided.

Day 6- KANDY / KALUTARA

Proceeding to Kalutara after breakfast and arrival at Kalutara Temple.

Kalutara Temple is well known for the Bodhi Tree (Sacred Fig) which is believed to be the 32nd sapling of Jaya Sri Maha Bodhi in Anuradhapura. This is one of the most venerated places Sri Lanka.

Resting of the day leisure on the Kalutara Beach.

Dinner and overnight stay in Kalutara will be provided.

Day 7- KALUTARA / COLOMBO

Proceeding to Colombo after the breakfast at the hotel.

Colombo, the commercial capital of Sri Lanka, has a long history as a port on ancient east-west trade routes, ruled by Portuguese, Dutch and British. The buildings reflect the blend of colonial art with Sri Lankan architecture.

Visit to Kelaniya Temple upon the arrival.

Dinner and overnight stay in Colombo will be provided.

Day 8- COLOMBO / AIRPORT

Directly head to Colombo International airport after your breakfast to catch your flight to get your home, back with cherishable memories!
